| | Whats Golden - Jurassic 5 | ] | ahhh here we are.... the end, what a wonderful and underireable moment for us all. But how do we know it is the end if it has always been the end? haha... well i liked this book, i cant say i love it but i do like it quite a bit.
The part i like the best is that Orwell describes the world as he sees it, as he think the human development has been going (downward). He describes the story of a lowly individual who stays a lowly idividual. there is no glory, just raw and senseless pain and suffering and minipulation. I know i said i wanted something to happen but i finally see how Orwell ment you to look at the book at the end. It is a warning, a rude awakening, he is telling us what will probably happen eventually and that there will be no hero, we shall be beaten and tourtured into submission and it shall last until the end of mankind. I also like that i can say it is not like any other book i have read and the thoughts expressed are similar to mine. the whole book seems like it was cut short, that Orwell wanted to extend it and elaborate, but was cut short of time. It seemed to me that Orwell wanted to more fully explain the thought police and the party and the other unfinished thoughts Winston has about the proles. Thats my overall impression of the book, at least all i can remember, but this is most of them.
The last few pages were the most maddening and the most interesting. First of all I HATE the ending, but i like the book because it actuallly ties in with the ending. Winston being tourtured and mutilated and broken is written with such good like grammar (jk Mr M). I actually forgot i was reading the book, the screaming and the anguish he goes through just is described very well. O'Brien is the main investigator or more so a guide for Winston. O'Brien almost reminds me of a ball monk with one of those brown cloaks and a rope belt with a cross... yeah yeah well he seems very passive but inforgiving of failure. I did not like Winston crying and admitting he loved big brother, that really pissed me off. i would have died instead of betrayed Julia, i would have done it just to stick it to the man n say that im not gunna be part of this stupid crappy Party... Just to prove my point. Winston really doesnt belive in anything, he will not die for anything, and i say that if you wont die for something then life isnt worth living, you are self centered and only concerned with promoting yourself. anyway..... that is my thoughts on the book, thank you Mr. Mancoff for having us read it, i enjoyed it and i thought allot. This is an example of a good book: Unusuall setting and plot, good ending that ties in with the story... I feel like switching places with Winston. Fo shizzle Mancizzle im out- |

| | The End - The Doors | ] | Orwell has really got me interested in this book, the lying and the trickery that is present in this book is enough to make anyone go mad, which is probably why we are reading it (jk mr mancoff) i like this book, and the tourturing and the questioning is interesting, they say in the book that they are not trying to punish him, or kill him, O'Brian and his associates have been trying to teach him, or convert him to a loyal greatful party member. They have an effective system too, because it inspires fear, pain and unquestionable obediance.
The Party sortove reminds me of the Spanish Inquisition (NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!! haha yeah those of you in Mrs brohdays remember that one) they charge the people with the crimes and then they go about to make them confess, they say that we are right you are wrong, so we will not stop tourturing you untill you agree with us and see that our path is right and we are cool cause we wear red hats, jk mr mancoff. they drive them to think that "I was wrong, I made a mistake, i must pay for it" even though they didnt do half the things they confessed to, which is pretty much what they to in 1984.
I also like the prison cell thing, how it seems to just float by, as if Winston is just thinking and acting in a daze sort ove half awake stupor and we are stalkers following him around. the fear that the prisoners inspire while trying not to be taken to "room 101". The proles are funny i think cause they sound like a bunch of monkeys angry and wanting food, just like a mob in a movie, just shouting and shaking fists and cursing.
I should probably read this book again to look for better and deeper insites that i could derive from this thing.... Peace out Master Mancoff |

The war in iraq rages on and Bush III is still sending more troops into battle, the terrorists have not been caught and the iraqi population of terrorists seem to have grown emensly as a result of the war Total UN casualties have mounted to 3,578,890. 1,970,009 of these casualties are U.S. soilders, and the terrorists still have no notions of giving up. The ozone is all but gone polution has destroyed it and the big rich men who polluted it are suffocating because of the lack of oxygen. The colonies on Mars and the moon are nearly completed and will be able to support life but most of the earth will have to live in isolated chambers on earth until the colinies are big enough to support the amount of life from the world. Even though half the population on the world was killed by a new form of bubonic plauge unknown to scientists today. All of Europe has been conquered by Ireland and everyone speaks Hungarian and ancient Celtic. Everyone is at peace except Australia and India who are fighting for control of the kowala bears. The Ice caps are melting due to global warming and new york will soon be under water. |

| | Maxwell Murder - Rancid | ] | im pretty happy this book has taken a turn for the better.
This book has become one of the best i have read in the last 20 pages, the idea of what this government is doing is explained and this story takes place during the beginning stages when there are still people who recognize something needs to be done soon before humans are a machine battling and bleeding the world dry. I can help but wonder the same thing that George Orwell must have thought: Is this happening to us? are we the the beginning stages of an enslavement of man... by man? The impulses of man are the same, in 1949 or 2050 men want power, and sooner or later someone was going to come up with this strategy to keep the "high" people in power, and it will creep up on us like it creeped up on the people of Orwell's world.
In this way Orwell provides a example of many terrifying examples of crappy government strategies that could controll the world in a few years. The top party members or "high" people are not concerned with losing power to lower people as they are of losing power to one another, which is another reason they decided to have a party instead of a dictator or a president.
The only way this whole government strategy works, relies on one thing alone: Thought Police. it is an ingenious method related to Pre-crime (from "Minority Report") catching people before they have a chance to commit a crime. The thought police call it thought crime, but it is really the plan that first forms in their mind, and the thought police try and take down the person before they decide to actually do someing about that plan . If this had not been thought of then the people who are "too smart for their own good" i.e. Syme would have banded together way before this and started a revolt and this party would not exist. I think Orwell knew that every communism, is exactly like the party; only the thought police creates a perfect system for the "high" people. Orwell is takeing the threat of communism takeing over the world and predicting what would happen if indeed that did happen and the strategy that someone would undoubtedly figure out sooner or later.
The department that winston works in is also an ingenious invention that could be stemmed from communism. The records he deletes make sure that no one remembers the past. for one reason: so they do not remember the rebellions, they do not remember the unrest and the unhappy citizens banding together to do something.
oh yeah good job matt nie, you called it, "Big Brother is the guise in which the Party choses to exhibit itself to the world" (pg 171) big brother isnt real, like matt said, he is just a figure to give the people something to belive in, to be afraid of, to call their leader. but as having a person with a will of his own would not be in the best interest of the party who would have to keep him in check. Instead they invent a imagineary figure with no real name who can be represented as a whole and no one is in absolute power.
something that mystifies me is that the people of Oceania do not really know what is happening or Orwell does not let us know thet they do. Everything is in chaos carefully brought about by the Party, they make sure no one person knows the whole truth about an event and it creates a sort of out of control confused (looking for a thousand dollar bill in a pile of singles) kind of desperation and animal like scramble to survive.
Orwell touches upon another intriging thought in part ten, the proles... having a crappy life, poor jobs, poor food, poor quarters, still find it possible to go home and sing. That is why he says they are immortal, you cannot destroy their will to live.
...well that little rebellion with the brotherhood want very long now was it, now im mad, he didnt even finish the book, or do anything but think. Something better happen to this party before the book is over otherwise cumbersome objects will fly at heads! and they shall roll... |

Winston as a child really dissgustests me, i just want to go beat him with a blunt, cumbersome object. He steals food from his dying mother and sister. He actually grabs food out of the dying sisters hand. it really makes me mad that kids would do that, also that he does it with no thought, even looking back he doesnt think "oh i shouldnt of done that" or "jeasus im a little devilkin monster beastie". Julia is also pissing me off, she pretends to be a rebellious woman but is "only a rebel from the waist down" as Winston describes her. She is being brain washed, she even forgot that they were at war with East asia and at peace with Eurasia only 4 years ago. Julia now oesnt seem interested in rebelling, only haveing short term pleasures for herself and winston and not really caring if this government goes on. its starting to piss me off that they arnt doing anything. They need to ty and find a resistance and if there isnt start the beginnings of one so even if they dont finish it that the future generation (which Julia doesnt care about) will have some means with which to fight the government. BAH!! i dont like this boooookkk!! so far i dont see a theme that makes you think. i already got over the weirdness of their world, now i need winston to discover what the phycology behind the human that makes us want to do something terrible like that. or somthing like that... The mind bogleing think is that once the government is formed, the very second it is, they declare that it has been like this scine the arrival of the civilized man. which is pretty stupid, myself i rather die fighting than let a government like that or any half-a** idea control me. So wake up Winston and Julia! |

Mr. Mancoff and myself deviously schemed together to make a plan and we built a space ship out of the classroom C.O.W. and the old wheely chair. then we squeezed inside and used the tractor beam to take the whole state of Illinois and then of course Ireland and we moved to the hoth system and are currently fighting the Dark Side as Jedi, Mr Mancoff as my master and i am his young grasshopper. Oh yeah, some crazy aliens came and enslaved the human race and you are all in a dream world, you are all lying naked in a tub of kool-aid someplace 2 miles above the ground. good luck america!

i like the way this author writes, he gives plenty of background information in a smooth way without really telling you that he is, like winstons wife and her personality, or julia's past efforts in the party, also the corruption that Winston did not know existed. he likes to describe Winston's and Julia's love for eachother, and the way in which each person operates and thinks, and their opinions, But i am sorta fallin asleep here, its to much information i think than is needed, i want to see some action in the form of a revolt or some other action take place. cause i think this book would be much more interesting if Winston and Julia start a revolt and conquer the world with cracked up proles or sumthing cool like that.
yeah n mr mancoff i lost my blog sheet so i dont kno if this is really allong the lines of what you want me to write. |

ive sort've changed my mind, this book has some rather interestig ideas considerig it was written in the 40's. especialy the rundown suburbs that do not sound that unsimilar from today's. Winston becomes more and more aware thatr a revolt is possible and he walks to mingle with the proles, the ones he thinks can do the revolting. He also relizes the ugentcy of the revolt before such things that are upsurd start happening that the people will swallow like 2+2=5, just because the government says so. |

This book better get better because the beginning is pretty stupid and kinda disappointing. The whole concept of the war, big brother, the Newspeak and all the other new things introduced in the book are not clear enough for me, they need to explain the process of the language and the jobs and the war more clearly. |
